September 2021
New Term
This year is flying by; we cannot quite believe we are already in September! We said a sad farewell to our older preschool children at the end of August, but we were lucky enough this year to be able to hold our graduation ceremony to celebrate their achievements. We wish them all the best for the future and we know they’re going to be great! We’d love to hear how you’re getting on, so do come back and visit us when you’re passing.
We’re also very pleased to welcome our new pre-school children who are starting with us this term.
The Children’s Hospital and University of Bristol - research project.
We would like to find parents of children with chickenpox who will volunteer to fill out a short online diary each day while their child is ill. It simply involves a few questions each day until they are better, no blood tests, no home or hospital visits.
If your child does catch chickenpox please visit www.chickenpox-study.co.uk for more information.
The results of this study may influence whether the UK introduces chickenpox vaccination free for all children in the coming years.
It will also monitor the resurgence of any chickenpox cases following the break in transmission caused by COVID lockdowns.
Nursery Antics…
We’ve been busy having fun with walks, building, baking, sensory play, apple splitting with Tim, roll play and lots and lots of outdoor play!
Millie’s Mark
We’re proudly displaying our certificate!
What is Millie's Mark?
“As a parent, placing your child in a setting or with a childminder that is endorsed with Millie’s Mark provides reassurance that all childcare practitioners know what to do in a paediatric first aid situation.
It acknowledges that children’s safety is at the forefront of the provider's mind when they care for your child.”
You can read more here: https://www.milliesmark.com/for-parents
Our whole team at Weston, including our chefs, cleaners and office staff, have full Paediatric First Aid and that have assessed our procedures, risk assessments and environments to ensure that your children’s safety is always our first priority
With the help of our dummy, Jeffrey, we will regularly run through scenarios with the staffing teams to keep up to date with our knowledge and confidence. He is placed at different points around the nursery with a possible scenario alongside him - staff must respond to each of Jeffery’s incidents as if they had happened to a child.
