We are really enjoying the arrival of the sun and have been making the most of spending the time outdoors, splashing in the water, bug hunting and of course climbing the trees.

Back indoors and our toddlers have been enjoying their newly decorated environments, which are looking very smart now that they are freshly painted and adorned with twinkling fairy lights.

Toddler room

On the subject of toddler rooms, i am very excited to tell you that we are introducing a new toddler room to Weston. The room will be based on the ground floor, near the office and will accommodate 28 children. We have made some adjustments to our age groups in line with the new room and our toddler rooms are now going to be for children aged 2-3yrs, meaning that we have adjusted the baby room back to a 0-2yr old room and children will transition around their second birthday.

We are busy ordering furniture and resources and recruiting new staff, but we aim to have the room partially up and running by the end of the month. We have recently interviewed for a Head of Room and I am pleased to inform you that our very own Veronica was the successful candidate. This does however mean that Veronica will be stepping out of Koalas to run the new room. If any of her current key children would like to move with her this is something that we can look into for you.

Curiosity Approach

The Curiosity Approach is a modern approach to Early Childhood and promotes awe and wonder using open ended resources, loose parts play, recycled objects and authentic resources - bright, beautiful and eclectic objects that offer value to play and capture and ignite children’s curiosity. At Weston we love the feel that the nursery is an extension to the home and are bringing this approach to nursery. We would really appreciate your help through donations to add items to our environments. We are looking for homeware items, old mirrors, picture frames and clocks; scarves, ties, handbags, hats, shoes and jewellery; guttering, pipes, wooden pallets, wooden apple crates, flower pots, furniture - e.g. old dressers. Please no plastic. Head over to the Curiosity Approach website or social media pages for some inspiration and further information or revisit the latest Snapdragons magazine (Issue 26) to read about Snapdragons Atworth’s journey to Curiosity Approach accreditation.
