February 2021

The blog is back! We pressed pause for a while due to the pandemic taking over our priorities, but each month we will now be posting highlights from our busy nursery days! Here is a quick peek at all the exciting learning, events and celebrations that have taken place at Redland in February.

Chinese New Year

The children enjoyed an immersive week of Chinese New Year celebrations. The babies spent time exploring new and exciting objects such as chopsticks and traditional drums, while the older children were fascinated by the story of the festival’s origin. Everyone was then treated to a delicious celebratory menu, prepared from scratch by our wonderful nursery chefs, Helen and Jess.

Valentine’s Day

We celebrated Valentine’s Day by making cards for our loved ones, talking about people who are special to us, and enjoying cuddles in our Key Families!

Pancake Day

As rich in learning opportunities as it is a day for delicious treats, all age groups had a brilliant time celebrating Pancake Day. The babies worked on their motor skills – exploring a range of tools for pouring and mixing. Toddlers were expanding their independence (and taste buds!) by selecting from a variety of fresh fruits to accompany their snack, and our budding mathematicians in Pre-School were working together to carefully weigh out the necessary ingredients. Pre-School also took their culinary skills outside and cooked their pancakes over our firepit!

New staff

We are so pleased to be expanding our team here at Redland. Some new faces you might have seen around the building are:

Babies – Amy and Lucie (Early Years Apprentices)

Toddlers: Katie (Toddler Room Head) and Ailsa (Early Years Apprentice)

Preschool: Lindsay , Sophie, and Josie (Early Years Apprentices) and Amber (Early Years Practitioner)

They have all settled brilliantly into their new roles, and have loved getting to know our fantastic children.

Next Month

Monday 1st March = St. David’s Day. The kitchen have devised a wonderful Welsh menu for all to enjoy.

Thursday 4th March = World Book Day. Children are invited to wear a costume to nursery, for a day of story filled fun!

Friday 19th March = Comic Relief. More details to follow for this year’s fundraising plans.

A few final notes

We are so proud of our wonderful staff here at Redland, but we would love to know if anyone in particular has gone above and beyond for you recently. You can fill out a quick ‘Snappy Superstar’ nomination, to tell us the reasons they deserved the extra recognition! Just follow the link below to do this.

Please also find a link to a range of parenting courses which are being facilitated by Bristol City Council, which you may find helpful. You are of course always welcome to speak with your child’s key person or another member of staff if there is anything you would like some additional support with.
