January 2020

What a great month here at Snapdragons Redland! We have kick started the new year with lots of exciting, fun activities and we just wanted to share a few with you.

Outdoor Fun

It may have been a little cold this January, but the children have been having lots of fun out and about in the local community. They’ve visited the local parks, libraries, the train station and they also went to see the big diggers working hard at the new housing development across the road from the nursery.

Fire Pit

Pre-school had a roaring time gathering round the fire during forest school. They followed instructions and helped set up the fire pit whilst learning about how to be safe around the fire. The children had great fun roasting bananas and listening to the crackling sounds of the fire.

Chinese New Year

The children have been celebrating Chinese New Year in lots of exciting, different ways. We cooked noodles, learnt how to write some Chinese words, made our own Chinese dragons and JoJo read to all the children in Chinese. Please do let us know of any special celebrations or festivals you and your family celebrate as we would love to hear about them.

DIY Wet Wipes

We’re trialling homemade wet wipes using FSC kitchen paper to cut down on wet wipes containing plastic fibres. The recipe, using natural ingredients and no harmful chemicals, is here for you to see, share and use if you want to join us. We’re using repurposed yoghurt tubs from our organic Brown Cow natural yoghurt as wipe dispensers as they are the perfect size. We’re happy to give you your own if you are trying this at home. Please let us know how you get on!

Ingredients

½ roll of heavy duty kitchen roll (eg Plenty, FSC certified)

420ml boiled water

1 tbsp pure aloe vera

1 tbsp gentle, fragrance free Pure Castile Soap

2 drops baby-friendly essential oil (eg Lavender or camomile)

Container that’s half the depth of a paper towel roll, with a hole in the lid.

 Instructions

  • Cut the paper towel roll in half and place in the pot

  • Pour 420ml still warm boiled water into a measuring jug and mix in all the other ingredients

  • Pour the mixture over the paper towels in the pot and allow the mixture to absorb for around 5-10 mins

  • Pull the cardboard roll out. It should bring the first sheet from the centre along with it

  • Poke the first sheet through the hole in the lid, secure the lid and start wiping!

Notes & Information

In babies they are creating a “families” display board, so it would be great if you could bring in your family photos to help us. You can either email them in for printing or bring them in with you. We do ask that the photo is ideally immediate family and only one or two photos.

Please can we ask all parents not to let other people through the baby pod/garden door. Due to safeguarding we ask that each adult is buzzed in through the baby pod door so that we know who is entering.

Just a gentle reminder that the car park here at Snapdragons Redland is for staff parking only. Parents are asked to use the on road parking outside of the grounds.
