About Horfield

Snapdragons Horfield was originally built as a chapel for soldiers based at Horfield Barracks in Victorian times. Its sturdy stone walls, towering bell tower, and double-height arched windows still reflect its chapel heritage, while the interior has been transformed into light, stimulating spaces where children can learn and play in the nursery’s natural wood environments.

In the pre-school area, there is a children’s kitchen used for cooking and healthy eating activities in line with the nursery’s healthy eating ethos. Each age group has its own floor within the building, and the outdoor gardens provide ample space for learning and play, including a specially built outdoor classroom and growing areas. Horfield Common is just across the road, and children are regularly taken there for walks and games.

Lauren began her journey with the Keynsham team in January 2024, joining the Preschool room as a qualified teacher. She was soon promoted to Head of Babies in April 2024, before stepping into her current role as Nursery Manager at Horfield in January 2025, where she is proud to be leading the team today. Lauren is passionate about early years education and believes in creating a nurturing, inspiring environment where every child can explore, grow, and develop a love of learning. She values teamwork, positivity, and supporting each child’s individual journey. Outside of work, Lauren enjoys spending time with her husband and their two children, Tommy and Hollie, along with their Border Collie, Teddy. They love going on adventures and exploring new places. She also enjoys crafting, especially crochet and acrylic art. Lauren loves being part of the Horfield community and thrives on the joy, energy, and learning that each day brings.

Aby joined the Horfield team in 2015 as a graduate apprentice and has grown with the nursery ever since. After gaining her Early Years Teacher Status, she progressed to Deputy Head of Preschool before moving to Redland in 2018 as Head of Preschool, where she also achieved her SENDCo qualification. After spending some time with her family, Aby was delighted to return to Horfield in 2023 as Head of Preschool and has since been promoted to Head of Early Years Practice for Toddlers. Outside of work, she enjoys reading fantasy fiction, keeping active at the gym, and making special memories on holidays with her partner, Tom.

Adam joined the team in September 2025 as Head of Early Years Practice and Deputy Manager. Since starting, he has completed training to become the nursery’s SENCo and is currently working towards becoming the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead. Adam loves coming to work each day and seeing the children happy, confident, and enjoying the wide range of activities on offer. Outside of work, he enjoys going to the gym and taking long walks with his partner.

Fee Increase

Fee increases may occur throughout the year. If there are any changes to your nursery fees, you will be given at least a month's notice of these.

Funding

For children attending sessions funded by the Early Years Entitlement, an Enhanced Provision Charge of £2.30 per funded hour will be applicable.

This charge covers everything that Snapdragons offers that is above and beyond the EYFS curriculum including meals and other consumables. The EPC is calculated for the whole funding period based on the total number of funded hours we will pass on in the term. This total charge will then be divided equally across the months covered by the funding period.

All children aged 3+ can claim 570 funded hours per year, working families may also be eligible for the working parent entitlement funding. For children who attend nursery on an all year round booking the funding is applied over 51 weeks of the year, up to a maximum or 11 or 22 funded hours per week dependant on eligiblity. If your child attends nursery on a term time only basis, the funding will be applied to your term time booking over 38 weeks of the year. This will work out as up to 15 funded hours per week or 30 dependant on your eligiblity.

Hours

Snapdragons is open from 08:00-18:00, Monday to Friday throughout the year. The full day session includes all meals. Flexible arrival and departure times can be arranged to suit individual needs at an additional fee. We're closed between Christmas and New Year and no fees apply.

TTO

Term-time only fees include a retainer charge for holiday periods. A discount will be applied to the sessions of full-time children, following any funding deductions. Discounts are also available for siblings.
