Trash to Treasure

We love to add real and natural items to our environments. We would be grateful if you could help us by donating any items you no longer want or need. Some suggested items are:

Health, Hygiene and Illness

As we start to head towards the colder months we understand that the children may be getting more coughs and colds. Snapdragon’s nursery is commited to maintaining a healthy enviroment where children can learn and develop through play. To assist with this, all employees will endeavour to minimise the spread of infection to other children and practitioners by following our illness policy and procedures. I will attach a copy of this below for your records.

Chefs Corner

Vegetable Jalfrezi

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp vegetable oil

  • 2 medium onions, chopped

  • 1 medium apple, cored and chopped

  • 1 garlic clove, crushed

  • 2 tbsp jalfrezi curry paste

  • 1 carrot, sliced

  • 1 green pepper, deseeded and chopped

  • 400g can tomatoes, chopped

  • 3 handfuls cauliflower, broken into florets

  • 410g chickpeas in water, rinsed and drained

  • 300ml reduced-salt vegetable or chicken stock

  • 180g easy cook long grain brown rice

  • 50g frozen peas

  • 2 tbsp coriander, chopped (optional)

  • 4 tbsp low-fat natural yoghurt, to serve

Method

  1. Heat the vegtable oil in a large saucepan. Add the onions, apple and garlic and cook, stirring for 3-4mins. Stir in the curry paste and cook for a few seconds.

  2. Add the carrot, pepper, tomatoes, cauliflower, chickpeas and stock. Simmer, partially covered, for 25-30mins, adding a little extra stock or water if needed. At the same time, cook the rice in a large saucepan of gently boiling water. It will take about 30mins.

  3. Add the peas and coriander to the curry and heat for 2-3mins. Check the seasoning, adding little ground pepper if needed.

  4. Serve the vegetable curry on warmed plates, with the rice, topping each portion with 1tbsp of low fat yoghurt.

Nativity Dates

(Sorry to mention it so early - But we know many of you will be wanting to get dates in your diaries!)

Our pre-school leavers will be staring in our annual Nativity on the 28th November. They will be split into 2 groups, with some performing in the morning and the rest in the afternoon. The pre-school rooms will soon be letting the children know their parts. They have been practising hard already and the halls have been filled with Christmas cheer!

If anyone is getting rid of any spare trousers, we would love to take them off your hands at nursery. We have had some generous donations recently of toys, books and clothes, but are slightly lacking when it comes to trousers. Thank-you in advance :)

Nominate your superstar

We love to hear from our families across Snapdragons about excellent service they have received. If someone at the nursery has impressed you, please fill in their details below and submit to the nursery. We run a rewards scheme for our teams and they can earn gifts by receiving nominations!
