Ofsted

On Wednesday 19th October we had an Ofsted inspection. We are very pleased and proud to say we are still outstanding! If you would like to read our report please find the link: https://files.api.ofsted.gov.uk/v1/file/50031157.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our wonderful families for your continued support.

Children in Need

On Friday 16th November we will be raising money for Children in Need. We will be dressing up on our pyjamas, taking part in the annual duck race, guess the gummy bears and lots more. Donations can be made in the office.

Concept

Concept proofs should have been given out to you by your child’s room. We need these back by Friday 9th November, even if you do not wish to purchase any photos!

Pottery

On Friday 16th November a pottery company will be at Weston. The children will have the opportunity to paint a mug, bowl or plate with handprints and/or footprints. If you are interested there is a form you need to fill in at the office. All payments need to be made (either cash or cheque) by 16th November.

Risky Play

Risky Play – At Snapdragons we like to challenge all our children in all areas of learning. The Government’s Health and Safety Executive has produced a new document called ‘Children’s play and Leisure – promoting a balanced approach.’  http://www.hse.gov.uk/entertainment/childrens-play-july-2012.pdf

The document has been produced to tackle myths and untruths that are around about ‘risky play for children’. It makes interesting reading and many points to consider.

The Key message from the document is :

‘Play is great for children’s well-being and development. When planning and providing play opportunities, the goal is not to eliminate risk, but to weigh up the risks and benefits. No child will learn about risk if they are wrapped in cotton wool’.

So, it’s not about letting children hurt themselves but allowing them to calculate the risk for them selves, they will need adult support, but instead of saying, ‘be careful’ perhaps we should be saying, ‘how can we complete the task safely?’
