August Newsletter
After a long, hot summer the rains have started as we welcome the Autumn along with fresh faces and new ideas.
It was a quiet summer for us as lots of our families embarked on different adventures, whether that be family days out, trips away or one of the biggest adventures of all – starting big school! We said goodbye to our school 2025 leavers and although we will miss each one of them, we know that they’re so ready for this next step and wish them all the luck in the word. It’s also been so nice to see a few of them popping in to see staff whilst dropping off siblings and hearing all about their first few days.
Across the building it’s been very important to make sure everyone has been kept cool and comfortable during the hot weather, so the children (and adults!) have been experimenting with different types of water play – from splashing in paddling pools and water trays to rescuing animals trapped in ice. We’ve been spending as much time as possible in the sunshine, turning sandpits into beaches and having picnics in the garden.

Is there a staff member that you would like to be acknowledged for all their hard work this year or someone who you would just like to thank? At Snapdragons we run a reward scheme for our employees, nominations from parents mean stars for the staff that can go towards a range of different rewards and prizes which can include sweet treats, hampers, meal vouchers and even a trip to the spa, so if you would like to reward the staff remember to fill in the online form sharing your lovely words. Hedgehogs
The Hedgehog team have been busy getting ready to welcome lots of new faces to the room and have been focusing on ensuring strong bonds and a safe, secure environment for our youngest and newest children. This doesn’t mean they haven’t had time for lots of messy play though as the children have been using different senses to explore the world around them.
Toddlers (Squirrels and Otters)
Squirrels and Otters have also been getting messy, experimenting with different ways to use textures and patterns within their artwork as well as further developing motor skills by learning how to use different tools to manipulate and transport water.
Preschool (Badgers and Deers)
Badgers and Deers said their final goodbye to those starting school, but not before having one last month of fun together. They repurposed the nursery’s recycling by coming up with some fabulous junk modelling creations, testing their scissor skills as well as their imaginations. The children have also been learning about the safe use of other tools, such as by practising with a knife during playdough play before moving onto managing the real thing at mealtimes. We’ve also been investigating letters, trying to match ones not just from our names but familiar words as well. Preschool haven’t forgotten to get stuck into messy play too however, as the children try their hand at more controlled movements, following specific patterns and shapes in their painting.
Staffing Updates:
We have welcomed a few more faces to our Horfield Family recently:
Amelia has joined our Otter room and Adam has joined us as Deputy Manager and Head of Early Years Practice. I know that they are both excited to get to know you all.
