January Newsletter

We hope that you have all had a wonderful Christmas break. The children have certainly come back recharged and have enjoyed sharing all the wonderful things they did over the Christmas period. At Horfield, a New Year has also come with new management. I have tried to introduce myself to all the wonderful families here and it has been so incredibly lovely how welcoming you have all been, so thank you! If I have not yet managed to introduce myself, please come and say hello!

Polite Reminders

Calpol - Please do not bring your child to nursery if you have administered Calpol to them before their session. We please ask that children are 4 hours free from Calpol , or other temperature reducing medicine, before attending the setting, please help us to keep our children and team well by not bringing your child to the setting when they are unwell. Please be aware it is advised that children only receive Calpol for 3 days before consulting medical advice.

Footwear - We have seen an increasing number of children wearing wellies in the rooms. Please ensure that your child brings wellies for outdoor play and shoes that can be worn indoors, this can include slippers or their normal shoes. This will help to keep rooms clean and be more comfortable for the children throughout the day.

Hedgehodgs

This month we have been celebrating bird week and incorporating birds into our messy play! We have enjoyed using sieves to fish feathers out of water, watch their colours run in shaving foam and dig pipe cleaner worms out of sand. We also explored textures with our own hay and clay birds nests and natural feathers.

Squirrels

Squirrels have been enjoying celebrating bird week by making their own bird feeders and then going on a local walk to see the birds and feed them. The children loved coming back to nursery and telling everyone about how the birds picked up the food with their beaks! They also took a trip to Windmill City Farm where they saw lots of different animals.

Otters

Otters have had a great January spotting different birds and naming them. They loved using the magnifying glasses to look for their favourite ones too. Otters have been celebrating Chinese New Year by decorating their own sticker snakes.

Badgers

Badgers have also loved celebrating bird week by creating their own bird pictures using watercolours. They’ve also enjoyed taking care of the dolls by giving them a bath. They also got moving by having a fun dance party!

Deers

Preschool have been painting their own birds this week for bird week. They took inspiration from looking at different birds in the garden to inspire their own masterpieces. We’ve also been exploring our sense of self by creating our own self portraits on canvas!
