What we have been up to…
Babies looked at different natural scents. We explored the textures using play dough and loved sniffing all the different smells:
Following our topic of life-cycles, Pre-School made their own butterflies, showing their scissor skills that we have been working on. Pre-School celebrated St. George’s Day by making a big dragon together which then gave us inspiration to make our own masks, and draw our own flags and dragons:
Toddlers have also been celebrating St George’s day by painting some flags, we have also had red and white sprite play which they were exploring and also red and white play dough:
Pre-School have their own catapillars to aid with our learning about life-cycles…

Please make sure you are filling in our pre-existing injury forms at drop off, for any accidents/bumps/falls your child may have had
Please keep the office updated via email about any changes to your child’s dietary needs so that we have it in writing and can update the kitchen
Our teams would love to see the children’s holiday pictures so if you are going on holiday or have been recently, we would love for you to send some holiday snaps in!

We will be saying goodbye Heather from Toddler’s this month as she takes on a new career as a school teaching assistant! We will all be very sad to see her go but wish her all the best for the future!

Safety on site
Due to policies from Corsham Primary school we are unfortunately unable to allow dogs on site, including in the car park. Please can we ask all parents to avoid bringing dogs on the premises.
We had a very successful fire drill last week where all children and staff did a brilliant job of evacuating the building safely and efficiently.

Spring is on its way! We have all been very busy with lots of fun activities to celebrate Lunar New Year, Valentine’s Day, Pancake Day, World Book Day & Mother’s Day!
Parent’s evening will be taking place in March - Please check with your child’s key person for their date and available time slots
Wessex water came to visit the preschool children talking to them about the importance of water, showing them how water makes flowers open and show there petals, where water comes from and how to save water:
Babies have been busy making their own spring pictures and loved doing some forest school!
We did some mud painting - mark making and exploring the textures with our hands! They all got super stuck in!
Pre-school and toddlers had a special parent visitor who is a nurse, they spoke about her job and she even brought in items for the children to use and try on:
Pre-school have been helping forest school Nat fill up the new vegetable planters with soil ready to plant and grow our vegetables in the spring/summer:

We now have our Nativity video link available. If you would like to purchase a copy please let the office know, copies are £5 (cash only) and all funds will be donated to Springboard. Springboard Chippenham is a charity that provides support for pre-school children (aged 0-5) with special needs and their families, they have offered support for a lot of our families over the years so we would like to raise some much needed funds for them this year.

If your child attends our Breakfast Club, please could you ensure they are arriving before 8:35am as this is the time we are getting ready to go across to the school. If you arrive after this time you will need to take your child directly to school.

Calpol reminder - your child will need to be clear from havong any Calpol for 4 hours - due to our policy we are unable to take any child that has been given Calpol within four hours prior to arriving at nursery.

What we have been up to…….
We were lucky enough to have a language expert visit our pre-schoolers and toddlers! The children were able to experience and practice a variety of words and phrases from the German and French languages.

Flu Vaccinations
This year’s flu vaccination programme is underway. Children aged 2 and 3 years old (on 31 August before flu vaccination starts in the autumn) are eligible for a free flu vaccine given as a nasal spray.
Bristol Early Years encourages all early year’s providers and schools to share the Flu Immunisation leaflets and information with families, and to encourage parents and carers to take their child for a flu immunisation in half term where appropriate.
Annual vaccination of children helps provide protection to each child and reduces the spread of flu to their families and the wider community, protecting others who are at increased risk of becoming seriously ill from flu. The flu vaccine also promotes a healthy working environment in nurseries and childcare settings by reducing the risk of flu being spread to others including staff.

Wellbeing Week
We will be celebrating wellbeing week at Snapdragons (Mon 9th Oct - Fri 13th Oct). We have lots of wonderful activities planned.
We would like to invite all children to come to nursery dressed in their sportswear for our ‘Sporty Day’ on Tuesday 10th Oct. We will be doing a yoga class with Marcia and many other sports activities such as the daily mile in the school playground.
We would like to invite all children to come to nursery dressed in their pyjamas on Friday 13th Oct to join in with our ‘Comfy Day’.
We would love for parents to send in their favourite cheesy jokes for us to share! If you could email them to the office (Broadwood@snapdragonsnursery.com) that would be great!

Macmillan Coffee Morning
We are hosting a Macmillan coffee morning at Broadwood on Wednesday 18th October, where we welcome all our families to come and join us to help raise money for a great cause and to enjoy some yummy cake.

The Great Broadwood Bake Off!
Staff enjoyed their own bake-off challenge over the summer. Well done to our star bakers Matilda and Natalie!
Matilda’s beautiful carrot cake wont the ‘Best Presentation’ award and Nat’s scrumptious kinder cheesecake won the ‘Best Tasting’ award.
Our babies and pre-schoolers enjoyed a sunny trip out to the local park…

Theme of the month….
Throughout the month of September we will be exploring the theme ‘All about me’ across all rooms, September is the month when we see most new children start with us and as a setting we aim to support children to thrive through secure attachments. As we get to know more about your children the staff will explore different activities with them such as making family books, talking about celebrations they have at home, exploring their likes and dislikes and ensuring every child feels secure and settled at nursery. If you would like more information around this area of our curriculum feel free to speak to your child’s key person.

First of all we have to say a sad goodbye to our pre-school school leavers. We had a fabulous graduation ceremony which all the children and staff enjoyed thoroughly. We wish each and every one of them all the best for their school journey!

Race for life Muddy 5k
Some of our team took on the challenge of racing the muddy 5k to raise money for Cancer Research and have so far raised £770!! Go team Broadwood!!
Reminders…
Can parents please ensure suncream has been applied to their child before entering nursery, upon arrival at nursery parents will be asked to sign the suncream register to say their child has had suncream applied.
A gentle reminder that once you have collected your child from the nursery, we ask that they are supervised as you leave to ensure they are kept safe. Staff are unable to supervise children once they have been collected.
If parent’s use funded hours, please remember that from 7th August you will be charged full rate as AYR funding ends on 4th Aug.

Art week
The children thoroughly enjoyed art week at the nursery, trying and testing our different methods and materials. We were lucky enough to have a local artist, Caroline, join us for an art class with pre-school.
Millie’s Mark
As we work towards our Millie’s Mark accreditation, last month all staff took part in a first aid quiz and role-play with our resuscitation manikin Bradley. This has helped to develop staff’s understanding of first aid topics such as; poisoning, electric shock and burns.
Reminders

Art Week
On the week commencing 17th April we will be holding an Art week for the pre-school children, we will be using this as an opportunity to get as crafty as possible. The children will be taking part in a painting/drawing competition using Spring as inspiration. We will be using various different materials and exploring different ways to create art such as observational drawings and collages. We will also be welcoming a local artist who will be hosting an art session with the children and judge the art competition.

Food at nursery
A quick reminder that food from home should not be brought into the nursery due to allergies of children and staff at nursery and keeping everyone safe. Please could we make sure that children do not bring food in with them in the mornings at drop off. Thank you.

We are running low on spare clothes for our out of school club children and would welcome any donations of clothes for children aged 4-11 if you are having a sort out.

Last month we had our forest school leader Nat at the nursery carrying out some lovely activities with all of the age groups and taking the children on some lovely outdoor adventures.
Pre-school Nativity
30th November, At the school hall.
If your child is not attending nursery on this day please ensure they arrive to nursery for 1:45pm in their costumes.
Your child’s part in the play should be written on their nativity invitation, if you are able to provide a costume that would be fantastic. This doesn’t need to be anything bought and can simply be a brown t-shirt and headband for reindeer or even something made at home. If you are unable to provide a costume please let us know and we can look into making one for you.
Please can we have all costumes at nursery this week so that we are able to start dress rehearsals.

October 19th - Concept Photography will be visiting nursery, if your child is not in on this session you are more than welcome to bring your little one along for photos just email the office to book your slot.

Parent Visits
Now that we are able to welcome parents back into then nursery we would love for some parents, grandparents or other family members to come in and share their talents with the children. Whether it is knitting, dancing or sharing your culture with the nursery we would love to have you here.
Donations of loose parts
Thank you for your loose parts donations over the past month! We are still on the look out for more and are now on the look out for empty kitchen roll tubes too.
Change of weather
With the change in seasons we are seeing a lot more cold weather. Please could we ask all parents to bring in some labeled gloves hats, wellies and a nice warm coat (or an all in one waterproof for the babies) so we can all enjoy the outdoors no matter the weather.
Water bottles
We would like to remind all parents that a labelled water bottle or cup needs to be brought to nursery everyday.
Staffing Update
This month we will be saying a big goodbye to Gemma and Sammy from our pre-school team.
Anna will be working to support babies and pre-school from the end of this month.
We have welcomed Heather to our Toddler team.
A big warm welcome to Kirsty who is our new head of babies and Katie our deputy head of babies.

Children’s toilets
Please can we remind all parents that there is no access for parents or visitors to the toilets and nappy changing areas within the rooms. If you would like to accompany your child to the toilet please could we ask that you use the disabled toilet located in the hall way of the nursery.
Loose Parts
We are collecting for loose parts, if you have any of the following you no longer leave please drop them at the office:

-Plastic bottle tops

-Wooden baskets

Theraplay and emotional wellbeing morning
Thank you to all of the parents that came to our theraplay and emotional well-being morning, it was lovely to share our session of sunshine circles with you. Keep your eyes peeled for our next theraplay event.

Spooks and S’mores party
We will be holding our annual spooks and s’mores party on 1st November. All children are welcome to attend, there will be lots of fun activities with forest school leaders and an open fire so parents will need to attend with their children. If you are planning to come along please let us know, if your child has an allergy please drop us an email so we can cater for this.
